“I absolutely believe that people, unless coached, never reach their maximum capabilities.”
― Bob Nardelli
Expand Your Perspective
On one of my solo road trips to Southern California, I visited one of my favorite national parks, Joshua Tree National Park.
Far removed from the big cities, it is not contaminated with light pollution.
Hence, the stars can seen brightly at night. After reaching the designated place for stargazing, I opened my car’s moon roof and gazed up into the dark sky.
Although I saw shiny stars, my view was limited by the rectangular window. To see more, I opened the car door and stepped outside.
The view dramatically expanded with the endless sky filled with thousands of twinkles. Additionally, I saw silhouettes of mountains and Joshua trees in the near distance.
By taking that extra effort to step outside of my car and dealing with the cold windy night, I gained a new perspective and was able to experience more.
This was only possible by embracing the unknown and handling the discomfort of being in the elements.
Identify Your Blind Spots
We all have blind spots because we don’t know what we don’t know.
And having someone realize that and point that out for us is paramount for our growth.
Having an outside perspective allows you to see a different approach to your existing challenges.
By not being immersed in your situation, others can provide non-biased, objective, and logical solutions.
For example, if you have a conflict with your partner, the guide can express his or her direction without damaging the relationship because he or she is not in. The coach isn’t afraid to give you honest feedback because he or she isn’t afraid of upsetting you or your partner.
His or her goal is to provide clarity in your times of confusion and chaos which will create results that best align with your core values and loving desires.
This external view can also come from friends who can tell you the truth, although that can strain your friendship unless you are open to receiving their advice.
You must also have a strong bond and deep trust with others for them to help.
To supplement, you can practice self-reflection, which requires time and space to be alone and analyze your life.
Essentially, you are being your coach by removing yourself from your daily life and evaluating it as a whole.
Because by not being immersed in it, you can see your life from an outside perspective.
And after gaining clarity on what needs to be done for your desired results, the next step is straightforward – you now must do the necessary tasks.
Choose Continuous Growth
In addition to providing a unique perspective, coaches can also give accountability for the actions you were committed to take.
This becomes more important the closer you are to mastery.
That’s because of the increased difficulty of seeing what is holding you back from the next level since what got you here won’t get you there.
To reach your full potential, you must step outside of your comfort zone.
This means doing things that you aren’t used to doing.
And having someone who has the results you want by your side makes the task less daunting.
Although uncomfortable at first, you will improve the more you practice it. And eventually, it becomes second nature and a habit.
That’s because everything is difficult until it becomes easy.
The guide can be your best ally in celebrating the wins and your greatest supporter in struggling times.
And when you continually choose growth, you will evolve.
That’s what truly matters.
It is those intangible traits and qualities you have acquired through a dedicated and concentrated effort to mold you into the man you want to be.
They are not given and can only be earned.
It is building your character through continuous improvement.
This builds resilience in dealing with deep adversity. When challenges appear (which they inevitably will), you will face them head-on without hesitation knowing the benefits you will gain after conquering them.
And having a coach will accelerate the process and make the journey more fun.
Closing Thoughts
To break through your current challenges and elevate to the next level, you must continue to learn and grow.
And having a guide allows you to see what you cannot – your blind spots.
Additionally, you don’t know what you don’t know.
Having the right coach by your side can point you in the correct direction and save you time, resources, and effort by not doing the wrong activities.
This way, you’ll experience huge breakthroughs and achieve your results faster and easier.
