“When you’re 20 you care what everyone thinks. When you’re 40 you stop caring what everyone thinks. When you’re 60 you realize no one was ever thinking about you in the first place.”
― Winston S. Churchill
Live Your Authentic Life
In 2016, I decided to live for myself and made a bold move.
I left my engineering job and pursued my dream of helping others with their health.
During that time, I also focused on the following:
- Travels
- Writing
- Backpacking in the mountains
- Meditating silently for ten days
- Building relationships
As a single individual with no house payment at the time, I had the freedom to relocate and minimize my expenses. By leaving my one-bedroom apartment by the beach and moving into a place with two housemates, I paid minimal rent for a small space in the attic, sharing a bathroom, kitchen, and dining room.
In return for giving up my consistent paycheck, I gained time and the flexibility for income creativity.
Relieving obligations of society, I enjoyed true freedom – to do what my heart desires.
Knowing that I had money for my essential needs, such as shelter, food, and clothing, I experienced true peace.
Without worrying about basic survival, I focused on a higher calling and deep self-discovery.
I followed my intuition and listened to my heart.
In addition to helping others with their life (health, wealth, relationships, and personal growth), I also worked with dogs as a walker and trainer to supplement my income.
This was also driven by my affinity for dogs and extensive experience volunteering at the animal shelter.
And after a few years of exploration, I realized that I missed the intellectual challenge of science and engineering, although that’s covered in some health-related topics.
Additionally, it also provides good income to fuel my lifestyle and support my purpose to grow and my mission to help more people.
And now I get to do both – helping others when I’m not working at my day job.
That’s what I would choose to do, even when money isn’t a driver. But I would consult on my schedule for companies whose missions resonate with me.
Focus on What Truly Matters
When life becomes busy, it’s easy to lose track of what’s truly important, which may include the following:
- Loving family
- Supportive friendships
- Meaningful work
- Hobbies
- Travels
It can also be the small things that can be easily taken for granted if you were to lose them, such as the following:
- Having a meal together with your family
- Go on a hike with your friend
- Watch the sunrise or sunset
You can remind yourself of your blessings by practicing gratitude. This will allow you to realize you already have plenty to be grateful for.
By focusing on yourself and your unique journey, you can avoid the comparison trap.
Celebrate your progress and wins along the way so you can stay on track with what’s truly important to you.
Minimize Your Regrets
You are the main character in your life story, and you get to write your own script.
To shift your energy to what truly matters, ask yourself the following:
- “How will I be remembered by my family and friends when I am gone?”
- “Am I putting energy and time into what is most important to me?”
- “What kind of impact am I making?”
When you focus on what makes you come alive, you are taking care of yourself. Then and only then can you come from a place of abundance and truly give to the world without expecting anything in return.
Once your cup has been filled and starts to overflow, you have an innate desire to give out of generosity.
And as for receiving, that is a mere bonus and reciprocal when you give what others want and need.
The satisfaction comes when you know you are in the service of others by bringing value to their lives.
Closing Thoughts
Life is limited.
And the inconvenient truth is that no one cares about you as much as you think they do.
That’s because most people are focused on themselves.
Knowing that can relieve any worries that you may have about what others think of you.
Ask yourself:
- “What will I do with the finite amount of time given to me?”
- “How will I live my life differently?”
Go to your grave and battle scars, knowing that you lived life according to your values.
Live fully every day and focus on what is most important to you.
And when that day finally comes, you’ll die empty of regrets.
I am on a mission to help 1,000,000 people, and I can’t do that without your help. Please share this article with anyone whom you think will find it valuable and helpful. Thank you very much! I greatly appreciate it!
