“The so-called meaning of life opened up before me, it turned out to be infinitely simple, give love and seek no reward, reciprocal love is your reward and the meaning of life in its entirety.”
— Andrei Gavrilov
Reciprocal Love Is Your Reward
At the end of each year, I evaluate every aspect of my life. And one of those areas is my relationships.
For those who have played an active role in the past year, I reward them with one or more of the following:
- Personal and thoughtful gifts
- Tickets to events and experiences
- A printed memorable picture of us
- Videos containing fun moments of us in the past twelve months
It’s my pleasure to create and send them these deserving gestures, without any expectation in return.
That’s because the simple act of giving provides joy.
However, for those who do reciprocate with love, generosity, and appreciation. They add another level of depth to our relationship.
And I am grateful for their kindness.
Because of their enthusiastic response, I know they have found my gifts and gesture valuable. Additionally, I am more likely to repeat this kind of act in the future.
Their response also plays an important factor the next time I evaluate my relationships.
Practice Consideration and Express Gratitude
To be considerate of others’ gifts, you can simply show respect and appreciation, even if you don’t find their presents valuable. This demonstrates you understand the gravity of the situation because the giver cared enough to do the following:
- Think about you
- Send you something
By cherishing their kindness, you are doing the following:
- Your appreciative behaviors reinforce their thoughtful actions towards you, which will increase their likelihood of doing more in the future.
- You show what they have done for you or given you is worthwhile.
- You indicate that you don’t take them for granted.
This further strengthens the relationship.
Other blessings in your life may not be as obvious as receiving from others, as they may include the small beautiful life moments or things you already own.
As for things, everything you own once added value to your life.
And if they no longer do, they are holding you back by requiring physical space or creating mental clutter. You can donate, sell, or give those possessions to someone who you know will find them valuable.
It’s important to express gratitude for what remains to realize what you already have in your life.
Give More of What You Want
To get what you want, you must deserve it by creating that in the world. For example:
- If you want love, learn to prioritize yourself and the important people in your life.
- If you desire growth, provide solutions and help others solve their problems.
- If you yearn for wealth, add tangible value to the world.
Understand this important distinction:
The more value you can add to the world, the more valuable you become.
And the universe rewards those who have provided acts of service and generosity, even though the compensations are not immediate and apparent.
Closing Thoughts
Life can reward you in unexpected ways.
To receive, you must give.
Additionally, when you appreciate what is already good in your life, the universe will want you to have more.
No matter what the reciprocation is, practice generosity to build a selfless character.
After being overflowed with joy, love, and prosperity, you will automatically spread it to everyone you interact with.
And when you can continuously give others what they want, your life will be abundantly filled with what you want.
